The United States Mint started the American Women In Quarters Program in 2022. The first woman in the quarter series was Maya Angelou, a writer, performer, and social activist. The Washington Quarter was first minted in 1932. The Maya Angelou quarter was released in February 2022. The reverse displays Maya Angelou with her arms uplifted with a bird in flight and a rising sun behind her. The images are inspired by her poetry and represent the way she lived. The image was designed by Craig Campbell and Emily Damstra. The bezeled women's quarter hangs from an 18 inch paperclip style goldtone chain with a 3 inch extender and a lobster claw clasp. The necklace comes in a white jewelry box and includes a Certificate of Authenticity. All years and mint marks will vary.
